Re: German snipers and sharpshooters
HI,
below a document of the 21st Mountain Corps, deployed in Montenegro and Albania, from early April 1944, ordering its two divisions (181st and 297th ID) to pick 15 men each for the sniper training course organized by 2nd Panzer Army's Waffenschule in Kragujevac, Serbia. At the same time, both divisions were to organize their own courses using a report by the 7th SS Mountain Division about the training at Döberitz, as well as captured Soviet training films.
Cheers,
G.

german ww2 sniper training schools.
Hello all I'm new here ive been researching the net and reading anybook I can find about german snipers including the memoirs of Bruno sutkus and sepp allerberger. My question and how I figure it belongs in this category is if anyone has come across any sniper school postings in their research? I'm trying to compile a list of name of training site and yrs of operatrion, FP numbers, documents of particular interest of the completion of training program. I have the schiffer book on the sniper badges hoping it provided insight to the schooling locations etc but not much luck. I do have a partial listing of training schools I was given a few yrs back but no way to confirm then no fp numbers. I'm happy to share the partial list I have now but understand I have not been able to verify them due to lack of knowing where to start that process. any help is appreciated links advice any leads.

This may be of interest to you if you are not already aware of it:
http://ihffilm.com/22379.html
It is a German WWII sniper training film (in fact two of them, if memory serves one of the segments is Luftwaffe) and an excellent resource on the subject.

Re: german ww2 sniper training schools.
yes I have a DVD copy of this training thank you though.

Here is an article on German sniper training.
https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/a-look-i ... 44.382783/
It isn't sourced but makes sense. The 1944 of the German training films date is consistent with this.
I don't think the Wehrmacht gave a high priority to sniping. Snipers were a feature of static warfare of the sort the Germans tried to avoid. Enemy snipers were an irritant to troops in the trenches but had no significant tactical effect. There wasn't any place in the rapidly expanding Wehrmacht for specialist sniper schools. By 1944 someone obviously decided otherwise.

do you have/know the "Vermisstenbildliste" Volume II G D printed by the MIA research service of the German Red Cross?
It provides some information (including a few FPNr) about sniper training companies and schools.
Thanks
Wolfgang
Re: German snipers and sharpshooters
Interestingly Josef Preiss is missing in your "master list". Preiss served in the same unit (Jäger Regiment 227) as Josef Pein and like Pein he was awarded the Ritterkreuz for 200 confirmed kills.
In another thread in this forum Preiss is listed as "still alive KC winner". But that post was back in 2013.

Anymore names that hasn't being mentioned yet for German snipers especially those who scored 200 kills and over?

Found this document over at the German Docs in Russia website:
It concerns the Scharfschütze exploits of 547. Volks-Grenadier-Division around September 1944, when it had 500 confirmed sniper kills during a period of six weeks. In particular, a Obergefreite Dolch is singled out for having 50 confirmed kills. The document is signed by Himmler.
