Hmmmmm.....well
i just bought a iron cross from a man named adalbert gutmayer, a panzer sargeant, it says he was in the :

A.A. 262, Panz. Abw. 196. i thought that was the 196th panz. regiment. he was reffered to as Uffz. Adalbert

it says he was also in the 262 inf. division

i hope its real.

Hi again,

Well i found a Panzerabwehr-Abteilung 196 here:
http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gli ... n/96ID.htm

But that was not a part of the 262 Inf. Div.

I think the A.A 262, stands for: Aufklärungs-Abteilung 262 witch was a part of the 262 ID

Here you find the 262 ID
http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gli ... 62ID-R.htm

Perhaps the number 196 was his personal id number?

Regards

Erik

Erik is quite right, sounds like your man was in at least 2 different units during his service. Both units had recce and anti-tank elements, quite logical and natural that he could have served in both.

As we're talking regular infantry division anti-tank and recce elements you're not really looking at him being in any armoured vehicles. Recce would be either mounted, on bycicles or perhaps in light vehicles (trucks or cars). Anti-tank would mean the 3.7cm Pak36 early war, progressing through pak 38 and pak 40
