Hello Dieter,
Thank you very much for this info, I see it's my fault, I didn't read something totally correctly. In the book 'Die SS-Sturmbrigade 'Dirlewanger' they said he went 'auf Genesungsurlaub am 15. März 1945' and I understood he got wounded around that time. But of course this means he was already wounded at an earlier time and he was healed enough on March 15th 1945 to take some leave.
Greetings,
Mike

Schmedes was sent to the Dirlewanger Brigade (later division) in late 1944 as a form of punishment for withdrawals the 4. SS-Polizei-Panzergrenadier Division made under his command in the Banat, in the autumn of 1944. Dirlewanger, an SS-Obfhr, commanded the Dirlewanger Brigade, while Schmedes, who outranked him as a Brigfhr, had to serve as "tactical officer" in effect, as Ia. The unit was upgraded to the 36. Waffen-Grenadier Division on February 10, 1945, and Dirlewanger was wounded near Guben five days later. Schmedes then became division commander for the remainder of the war.

what is the source of your statement, please.
Schmedes was Kommandeur der 4. SS-Polizei-Panzer-Grenadier-Division 22.08.1944 - 27.11.1944
and then
Führerreserve im Personalamt der Waffen-SS im SS-Führungshauptamt 27.11.1944 - 15.02.1945
according to his personal file (BDC-SSO).
In his file is no record of his moving to Dirlewanger in "autumn" 1944

Dieter, I was going by the account on pages 10-11 in Siegrunen #42, which reads, "On 12 December, the commander of the 4th SS Polizei Div., Brigfhr. Fritz Schmedes, unexpectedly found himself canned; he had disobeyed a "Fuehrer" attack order somewhat earlier on the grounds that it would have been suicidal, and thought at best he would receive a reprimand. Such was not to be the case as the Reichsfuehrer-SS decided to make an example of him. Himmler hurriedly promoted a junior officer, Ostubaf. Walter Harzer, to Standartenfuehrer, and ordered him to replace Schmedes as divisional commander. But for Brigfhr. Schnedes the worst was yet to come: he was eventually posted on probation to the Dirlewanger Brigade! His exact position was that of "Tactical Officer," which was rather ambiguous. In essence he would be an advisor and second-in-command to the brigade CO, Oberfhr. Dirlewanger."
That excerpt mentions a failure to attack, not a retreat, so I had that confused, but I took the reference to be assigned to the Dirlewanger Brigade (not division) to indicate that the assignment occurred rapidly. I see now that source was ambiguous on a date.

this deduction is not conclusively, the posting of Schmedes 2½ months later to the Dirlewanger Brigade was not stringently an abatement.
See the proceeding:
On 15.02.1945 Schmedes was appointed to “Kommandeur des Aufstellungsstabes der 35. SS-Polizei-Grenadier-Division“ and
at the same time as ”Taktischer Führer zur SS-Sturmbrigade Dirlewanger kommandiert”.
Five days later (after Dirlewanger’ s wounding) he was appointed in full command as “Kommandeur der 36. Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS”.
Cheers,
Dieter
