On a Sterbebild on ebay it says that he was a GEBIRGSPANZERGRENADIER ... must be a mistake.. or not?

I can only imagine he might have been a member of the 6.Schützenbatallion / SS Geb.Jäg.Div "Nord". This was renamed and equipped as Panzer-Grenadier-Batallion 506 late in 1944, c/r in January 1945.

HE,he..
He might have belonged to the
Gebirgsmarine outfit which used
NSU Kettengraeder with Acht-Acht mounted on it. :)

Hello!
Yes, the man is clearly a "Heer" man, so my first theory is totally wrong. I am out of suggestions...

BTW Cristopher:
Habe letzte Woche mit den Asmus gesprochen, und die ganze Divisionsgeschichte der 20 ID bestellt. Band 1 kam gestern, und ist einfach toll! Danke für den Hinweis auf Asmus!

It's puzzling to figure out what was the meaning of such a Heer man as "gebirgpanzergrenadier" and "gebirgmarine".

It is probably just the family not being used to military terms and getting it incorrect. Happens a fair bit with things like this or listing them with awards they didn't actually win.
