Kampgruppe Knittel/Hansen query

Post by PF » 22 Mar 2008 16:19

During the advance of 17/18 Decmber 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge of Kampgruppe Knittel/Hansen to Trovis Points-did any units encounter/gunfights with any motorcycle outriders or messenger units of the US 99th or US 106 Divisions? At least one instance was US Colonel Church Matthews and his motorcycle escort was ambushed by the Germans near St. Vith

Another Kampgruppe Knittel/Hansen query

Post by Snarka » 25 Oct 2011 10:12

Sorry for some necro-posting : ) but why making a new topic if there is one with the appropriate name?

This is one of the photos which ppl sometimes erraneously (?) describe as KGr. Peiper. I've heard that this is either KGr. Hansen or KGr. Knittel. What is correct? And also, maybe somebody knows even the names of these soldiers?

I never came across a Persin or Ochsner in any document, not in the Anschriftliste of the Truppenkameradschaft AA LAH, not in the Volksbund database and none of the veterans I asked knew them. I know Pallud introduced these names in the early 1980's but I still wonder about his source. Several people in the photos in his book, including photos from the Kaiserbaracke crossroads, have been misidentified so how reliable are the names Persin and Ochsner?
