Division Schwedt 1945 Skorzeny
Re: Division Schwedt 1945 Skorzeny
Robert, this is such valuable information to me. Thank you very much. Yes he was with the Wehrmacht as Hauptmann before the SS and I am trying to find whatever information I can.
Re: Division Schwedt 1945 Skorzeny
Hi tsla,
my pleasure!
Do you know if Heinrich Hoyer was a former member of the Brandenburger special unit like Odo Willscher who also fought with his SS-Jagdverband sniper unit in the Schwedt area? It seems that you have some Insider knowledge about Hoyer
Regarding the Schwedt bridgehead I know two books in English language where you can find some pages about the fighting there:
- Terrence O'Reilly "Hitler's Irishmen" about the two former British/ Irish soldiers and German POW's James Brady and Frank Stringer who fought with SS-Jagdverband Mitte under Karl Fucker. It offers some kind of first-hand accounts although some details are false (Odo Willscher is not Otto Wisler ).
- Stuart Smith "Otto Skorzeny- The devil's disciple"
A very good read and an informative account about Skorzeny's leadership of the "Division Schwedt" and some of the Wehrmacht's units there with some pages more than O'Reilly's book.
This thread seems quite informative too:

Thanks for sharing Robert. Unfortunately I have no information about the Brandenburger special unit. I’ll let you know if and when I find evidence
Re: Division Schwedt 1945 Skorzeny
The earliest date I have is above when quoted as SS-Hstuf in March 1944; in fact he was not promoted SS-Hstuf until 1 May 1944. His SS No. 29498 indicates his SS entry around 1930 or slightly earlier

Interesting source
"N 756/212 - Verschiedene ungeklärte, geplante oder kurzlebige Divisionen der Waffen-SS", part of the fond "N 756 - Vopersal, Wolfgang"

Re: Division Schwedt 1945 Skorzeny
This is what Skorzeny and Radl told their US interrogators:
On 1 February 1945 Skorzeny, Gallent, Slama, Pinder, Hunke, Fucker, all of SS-Jagdverband Mitte, and Fallschirm Jäger Bn 600, and most of
SS-Jagdverband Nordwest, went to fight the Russians at Schwedt/Oder.
About the middle of March 1945, Skorzeny, Slama and Gallent returned to Friedenthal and continued to Teisendorf and Linz, where they
established a Streifendienst (patrol service, in this case to prevent straggling) at the request of Gauleiter Eigruber.

Tamari,
Thank you for those pages! May I ask, what are the sources stated under footnote 8, 43 and 44 above?
