SS-PzAbt 11 "HvS" and SS-StuGAbt 11 equipment

#1

Gentlemen

I have two questions regarding the fighting vehicles of both formations.

First: Which tanks were in use with the SS-Panzer Abteilung 11 "Hermann von Salza" of the Nordland division in
January/February 1945 ?

Second: Which assault guns were in use with the SS-StuG Abteilung 11 in the same time period ?

Thanks in advance

German records show that on 1.1.1945 only 1 company of SS-Pz.Abt. 11 (3 Pz. V - old Ausf. D - and 8 StuG III) was present with 11. SS-Freiw.Pz.Gren.Div. while the bulk of the Abteilung was refitting in Germany where it received a shipment of 31 StuG III on 30./31.1.1945 before returning to the division.
SS-Pz.Jg.Abt. 11 had already been sent back to Germany for refit during the fall of 1944 and had received 31 StuG III in early Nov. 1944. It did not return to the front until early February 1945.

On 12.2.1945 the units reported the following AFVs on hand:
SS-Pz.Abt. 11 = 2 Pz. V, 37 StuG III
SS-Pz.Jg.Abt. 11 = 24 StuG III

By 12.3.1945 the inventory of SS-Pz.Abt. 11 had been reduced to a total of 2 Pz. V and 26 StuG III. This already included 12 StuG III which had been received as replacements just a few days before. 10 Pz. IV/70(V) were shipped to the unit during the second half of March 1945.

SS-Pz.Jg.Abt. 11 was detached to the X. SS-Korps since several weeks and in the meantime had lost all except perhaps a handful of its StuG (no concrete figures available). No shipments of any replacements are recorded after that.

Vielen Dank, Martin

I have just another question, maybe you can help. Is it true that the s.SS-Pz.Abt 503, attached to SS-Pz.Abt "HvS" by that time, were completely equipped with Tiger II tanks ? Or did they had a mix of both, Tiger I and Tiger II tanks ?

regards
DK

s.SS-Pz.Abt. 503 did not have any Tiger I in its inventory during 1945. It had received a total of 39 Tiger II between late October 1944 and late January 1945.

Hi, based upon post above, that mean 11.SS. Frewilligen PanzerGrenadier Division Nordland 's SS Pz.Abteilung 11 only had one company with both Panther and StuG III for a long period of time until Jan 1945 ?

Based upon June 1 1944 report, Nordland had 10 x StuG III operational plus one in repair, five operational Panther and one operational Pz IV, did this Pz IV was tank or just command tank ?
