Re: Unit emblems identification help
Many thanks John Hilly, exactly this emblem, which appears in yellow as a decal option for an uniedentified unit in Italy for the Dragon's kit n° 7317

Re: Unit emblems identification help
Panzer Lehr did not ever operate in Italy. The Panzer Lehr Division employed a fairly wide range of "L" markings and a good example of some of those can be found here:

There were other Lehr units not part nor associated with Panzer Lehr Division that also adopted insignia with the "L" as a component, but if I recall correctly, around the time that this "Italy" insignia first appeared, which I think was on one of their die-cast Sd.Kfz 251s, the consensus was that it was pure fantasy, but I can't say for sure since I do not know much about the Italian campaign (except that PLD was never in Italy).

Panzergrenadier-Lehr-Regiment 901(or rather Panzergrenadier-Versuchs-Regiment 901 as it was called at the time) was in Italy and I have some expired ebay photos (Sdkfz. 251's) to prove it.

Hi,
Toten39 : I think the Henschel truck belonged to a Luftwaffe Nachtjäger unit.
Alan : There are no dates on the pics but I think one of the pics may well have been taken at Fallingbostel (vehicles look pristine). As far as I can remember at least two pics had the caption "Banja Luka". In most pics some trees are bare whereas others still have plenty of foliage. This pic was taken in Banja Luka (if I remember correctly) and shows the "L" on the front armour plate :

Re: Unit emblems identification help
I wonder about a sign that looks like a devil's/demon's head. The unit in question was a motorized (self propelled) Luftwaffe Flak unit. Here the unit apparently guarded general Oshima in Belgium? I also have a pic of an Sdkfz. 10/4 with "Behelfspanzerung" showing the same sign.

Re: Unit emblems identification help
Arjan, that sign on the front of the 251 is certainly 901's insignia, a stylised 251 front plate with the Lehr L in it.

Re: Unit emblems identification help
Hi Alan. Regarding my latest query, I think I may have found the answer myself. It may well be leichte Flak-Abteilung 81 (mot) :

Apparently the emblem of the unit was a fox or could it actually be a fox head (the pics in the thread are no longer visible) ?

Re: Unit emblems identification help
This is clearly a panzer belonging to that Panzer division, but what about the white horse?
And this is a capture of the surrender of the 11th Panzer Division at the end of the war
This emblem it´s on a Grille 38 M, also the emblem is depicted on the frontal of a Sd.Kfz. 251/1 D.
I guess that is a kind of big cat jumping a G or S gothic character.
I know that the vehicles belong to the 11 Pz.Div. but I don´t know to which sub-unit belongs this symbol.

Most likely 24 Panzer Division tank on the first photo.
