Found an awesome picture to back up an argument I was having with a local guy who said StuG's were just for killing MG nests and couldn't fight with tanks. Thought I'd share it here.

Hello,

From "The German Wehrmacht in the last days of the war", by Professor Percy Ernst Schramm. FMS C-020
On 11 January an order of the Fuehrer (effective at 0145 hours on 12 January) directed that the 7th Parachute Division, reinforced by 384th and 667th Assault Gun Brigades and the 10th SS Panzer Division should be committed as soon as possible in a attack from the area Forstfeld-Binheim towards Drusenheim by way of Roeschwoog in order to stablish a connection with the 503d Infantry Division.

Darkhorse,

No, although already ordered to be formed several months earlier the 4th (infantry), 5th and 6th (Pz. II) batteries did not join the brigade at the front until June 1944 after formation and training had been completed. During the following summer battles the brigade was almost destroyed and when it was reformed later only a new 4th (infantry) battery was raised again.

Battlefield reconnaisance had to be provided by the higher command the brigade was subordinated to. The 5th and 6th (Pz. II) batteries were not used for recce but simply for fire support. Together with the 4th (infantry) battery they were supposed to eliminate all possible flank threats - except tanks - to the Sturmgeschütze whith their limited arcs of fire, i.e. smother enemy positions with machine gun and 20 mm rapid fire to keep away enemy infantry trying to attack with any close combat a/t weapons and keep enemy a/t crews from properly operating their guns etc.

The brigade had a Pionier-Zug in the 4th (infantry) battery, that's all.

Martin Block
Did not some of the Stug brigades have a battalion of motorized infantry attached?

Jul 44 almost wiped out during the Soviet summer offensive
Fall 44 remnants consolidated with remnants of Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 245 and rebuilt
Sep-Oct 44 the Netherlands, assigned to Kampfgruppe Chill
Is There a good reference for their actions in Sept 1944?

They don't appear to have faced XXX Corps, so I'm assuming that they would have engaged Richie's XII Corps in the Turnhout / Tilburg area?

Oh boy, do I have some additional information for you guys :-)

The Sturm-Artilerie-Brigade 667 was 4th Army reserve in June 44.
The 4. (Sturmgeschütz-Begleit) Batterie (chef Oblt Schäfer) and 5. (Begleit-Panzer) Batterie (Führer Oblt. Bertuch) reached the 4th Army on 28.5.1944, whilst the 6. (Begleit-Panzer) Batterie (Führer Oblt. Harnack) reached the area of Chljustino on the 13.6.44.
They had the first casualty of the upcoming offensive on the 21.6.1944. All in all, the number of recorded KIA and WIA were light, however there were many MIA's.
On the 27.7.44 the remnants of the Brigade were 7 Offiziere, 4 Beamte, 115 Uffz. and 375 Mannsch.
Over the period of 21.6.-21.7.44 the Brigade lost 17 Offz., 1 Beamter, 100 Uffz. and 224 Mannsch.
Amongst the losses were the Brigade CO, Major Rudolf Zettler. The 5. and 6. Begl.Pz. Battr. lost all 6 of their officers, the 4. StuG.Begl. Battr. Chef was with the 7 remaining officers.
The Stab und Stabsbatterie were nearly completely intact, having only lost 22 men, of which were 5 Offz., 1 Beamte, 5 Uffz. and only 11 Mannsch.
The 1. Battr. lost 2 Offz., 17 Uffz. and 28 Mannsch.,
The 2. Battr. lost 2 Offz., 14 Uffz. and 25 Mannsch.
The 3. Battr. lost 2 Offz., 22 Uffz. and 47 Mannsch.
The 4. Battr. lost 12 Uffz. and 75 Mannsch. (SOLL: 1/30/177)
The 5. Battr. lost 3 Offz., 18 Uffz. and 26 Mannsch. (SOLL 3/39/50)
