SS-IG Ausb.Btl. 2 at Arnhem

Post by Jampe » 06 Jun 2011 20:41

Hi!
Does anybody know how this training battalion was organised and equipped during the battle of Arnhem
in september 1944?
I know this unit was supporting several Kampfgruppen of the "Westgruppe" at Oosterbeek 18 - 26.9 1944,
but I can´t find any information regarding it´s manpower and equipment...

I think it might have had 3 kompanies? and was commanded by SS-Stubaf. Eugen Eberwein.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards, Jampe

Many thanks Simon!

It would also be very interesting to know how many and what type of guns this unit was using at Arnhem.
Reasonably, an infantry gun training battalion would have been equipped whit le.IG and/or s.IG guns?
It´s also very interesting to see on the feldgrau forum, that at least elements of this unit (145 men) was
transferred to Normandy in august as replacements, probably absorbed into the 12 SS HJ division??

Hello Jampe

1 Kompagnie = 6 x 7.5 cm le.I.G. 18
2 Kompagnie = 3 x 15 cm s.I.G. 33 + 6 x 7.5 cm le.I.G.18
3 Kompagnie = 6 x 7.5 cm le.I.G. 18

I have the number of troops on 30-03-1944 = 377 troops

Hi Jos,

That was exactly what I was searching for, thank You very much Jos!

Just one more question for clarification Jos, was the 'meldung' for the number of guns also of 30.3.1944?

Best regards Jampe

As of August 1, 1944:

1.Btry. = 6 light guns
2.Btry = 3 light, 6 heavy ("18 33" ?)
3.Btry = 6 light guns

Hi again Jos!
Now it´s perfectly clear, many thanks!
Still one more question...Does the abbreviation (f) after the symbol for Mg, mean they used french machineguns?

Hello Scott

The date is 01-07-1944 , on this list Btl. Eberwein had no I.G. only 2 x 7.5 cm guns and 4 x Goliath .
