Just a guess, but they might have been/probably were taken to Alexandria for debriefing by British Military Intelligence.

The destroyers in the background seem to be Italian destroyers (Quintino Sella):

David Ralph Goodwin might have made a post war compilation of different pictures from different sources.

Yes grassi, Dago destroyers seems to be a kind of Australian slang for Italian destroyers. Thanks. Cheers. Raúl M 8-).
