Did this division ever see any combat? (or some of its regiments?)

I`m also looking for the various locations of the units from this Div.

Thanks!
Their service in Norway is most interesting for me. I have seen a source claiming that some elements were attached to the 20. Gebirgs armee. If so, they probably fought the Russians in nortern Norway?

Hi Erik

It mentions in Tessin that the came under 20 Geb Armee but mabe only for Admin purposes rather than actual Frontline OoB. Mitcham mentions that the division was based in Stavanger in 1944/45.

Hello! I recall seeing a post on Feldgrau.com that gave the OOB of the 20th Mountain Army circa March or April 1945. I copied it to my notes (see below) and the 274th Infantry Division was a component of the LXX Army Corps in Norway:

LXX Army Corps: General der Artillerie Hermann Tittel
• 280th Infantry Division: Generalleutnant Johann de Boer
• 274th Infantry Division: Generalleutnant Kurt Weckmann
• Division Nr. 613: Generalmajor Adrian Freiherr van der Hoop

According to this website: http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gli ... derung.htm

the 274.Infanterie-Division was headquartered in Stavanger as of January 1945 and had the following structure:

Grenadier-Regiment 862
Grenadier-Regiment 865
Artillerie-Regiment 274
Divisionseinheiten 274

Regards,
Shawn

I just found some very informative postings by Snorre under the "Felpost nr. " discussion. Locations in detail for the whole division!

Hello!
I hardly believe the division, formed 26. Mai 1943 redesignated "bodenständige Division" (1. Juli 1943) ever saw combat. It stayed in the Stavanger area until 8. May 1945. The "Grenadier-Regimenter" were designated "Festungs-Grenadier-Regimenter".
