SS-Ustuf Karl Bormmann had plenty of tank combat ahead of him after the 66 kills over Soviet tanks in 1945. I believe Bormmann had plenty of tank kills early in his career in 1944. Unfortunately there is no final kill score over enemy tanks at the War's end for Bormmann. Could be close to 100.

Gentlemen,

What a battalion commander of a Panzer-Abteilung do? I'm rather surprised that he didn't have a high score of tank kills just like the low-ranking tank commanders does.

Because they had much more 'work' than simply tagetting other tanks?

Already a Kompaniechef had to lead his tanks, to direct the targets to his Kommandanten. While an Abt.Kdr. had to communicate with his superiors, to lead his companies in battle, to coordinate subordinated units and so on.

Sorry my mistake of the spelling of the last name of Karl Brommann. It's not Bormmann.

The name Arno Giesen is a nom de guerre. The man's real name was Arnold Friesen. Information is from another topic of this forum.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the Oakleaves holder Josef Jakwert yet. Ending the war in the Panzerjäger-Abteilung 1562, he was credited with 51 tanks destroyed.

According to his Knight's Cross recommendation, SS-Obersturmführer Hurdelbrink was responsible for 36 enemy tanks destroyed in the time period 08.08.-16.08.1944.

Anybody who has a copy of this or has a list of the Waffen SS RK's during this period could contribute?

June-August 1944, the I SS and II SS Panzer Korps were in Normandy, Wiking and Totenkopf were engaged in some of the heaviest armored combat east of Warsaw.

I'll have to wait until 2021. USPS is severely bogged down right now.

I've been rather preoccupied with my Knight's Cross work lately, however I recently acquired a number of late-war Verleihungsvorschläge and have the following names (all Heer Ritterkreuzträger) to add to the list...

Feldwebel Robert Fischer: 13
Unteroffizier Rudolf Kettmann: at least 10
Oberwachtmeister Heinz Ott: 47
Wachtmeister Rudolf Tessenow: 11
