Fahrkol. (60 t) KStN 1246

#1

Post by KStN201 » 18 Aug 2016, 20:51

Does anyone have a KStN for the Fahrkol. (60 t) from 1/3/42 or an idea of the manning, vehicles, weapons it had?

Thanks

David

The initial KStN 1246 for a 60-ton transport column was a provisional (behelf) unit. Tessin indicates that this organization was revoked i.a.w. AHM 1944/136 (dated 21.04.44). Unfortunately, the AHM itself does not show any remarks regarding KStN 1246.

On 25.08.43, all horse-drawn transport columns (KStN 201 dated 01.02.41, KStN 1241 dated 01.03.42, and KStN 1246 dated 01.03.42) were ordered to be converted to Fahrschwadron (60t) KStN 1242 dated 01.06.43, or to Fahrschwadron (60t)(Panje) KStN 1242a dated 25.08.43. The latter was attached as an annex to the order. [GenStdH/OrgAbt/Nr. II/19566/43 geh. dated 25.08.43 ], which is for a company equipped with Panje wagons. See the attached.

I have not located any organizations for 60-ton horse-drawn transport units (including KStN 1246) using regular German equipment prior to the KStN 1242a dated 01.10.43, which was the next unit transporting 60 tons, (part of the n.A. series). Interestingly enough, it was for companies to be equipped with the Feldwagen 40 or local wagons as substitutes for the Hf.1. This seems to combine KStN 1242 and KStN 1242a.

The loading on these panje wagons was 375 kg each compared to normal Hf.1 loading of 1000 kg

I posted a query re the above in 2016.

Since then I have been trying to gather information to establish the structure of 1246 1940-42.

The information gathered so far:

The basic structure is Gruppe Fuhrer, 3 Zug, Tross

The breakdown for 1940 is: 4/19/125 = 148; 69 wagens; 153/162 horses (actual per 170 Inf Div)

The breakdown 1942 is: 4/14/143 = 161 (total per 327 Inf Div) (speculative breakdown based on KStN 1242 1/6/43)

Questions:
1. AHM indicated that the KStN had light (mit le besp. Fahrzg.) and heavy (mit grosser ausstattung) versions. One source describes the version as Ausfertigung 1. Does anyone know what the differences were?

2. How do the different versions tie in with the number of Hiwis Fahrer vom Bock of 68?

3. Does anyone have anything to flesh out the 1942 breakdown?

Thanks

David

Hi Dave,
I have no more information for you, I can add only a consideration about your first question. In KStN 1242 n of October 43 we find two versions, Ausfuhrung A with Feldwagon 40 with payload 750 kg, 4 platoons with 20 each, and Ausfuhrung B,with 375 kg wagons, 40 in each platoons, with a total of about 100 men more, considering the larger trains, too. I think that the Hiwis number you found is coherent with a big wagon organization (60 one ton wagons in the platoons and 8 in the trains), the light wagons version should have many more wagons and Hiwis to drive them.
I hope that this was useful for you
regards
Max
