the 102. Infanteriedivision was badly shaken during the fighting in Ostpreußen in early 1945. The divisional Sturmgeschütz-Kompanie (Kompanie 1102) was equipped with Sturmgeschütz IV.
Kompainechef was Oblt. d.R. Hans Engler (Deutsches Kreuz in Gold on 6.8.1944), his Zugführer Lt. d.R. Eberhard Schmalz (DKiG, AU, RK) and Lt. Bojert.
Obviously, according to an document from German Bundesarchiv, Freiburg, this company no longer was with the division on 15.3.1945:
Lt. d.R. Schmalz is mentioned as wounded on 4.3.1945, so the company still with Panzerjäger-Abteilung 102.
(on Eberhard Schmalz see this thread here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9516&p=2092444#p2092444)
But on 15.3.1945 remaining Oblt. d.R. Engler and Lt. Bojert are listed as "Abgang, mit Wirkung vom 14.3.45 zur Jagdpanzer-Kp. 406" and just the Stab, 1.(Pz.Jg.) and 3.(Fla) Kompanie are mentioned by the Panzerjäger-Abteilung 102.
So the remaining Sturmgeschütze IV were used to form an Jagdpanzer-Kompanie 406 and were no longer an part of 102. Inf.Div.
Anybody has ever came across this unit?
