Fallschirm-Infanterie Kompanie commander, 1937
Fallschirm-Infanterie Kompanie commander, 1937
Hello,
Most of sources give the name of Oberleutnant Hilmar Zahn as first commander of the Heer first and only parachute unit, between April and September 1937. But everything that I found about him let me to think it should have been another Zahn. Hilmar Zahn, born in September 1919, was not even 18 at this time!
Does anyone know the correct identity of the first commander of the Heer parachute company, prior to Major Richard Heydrich that took his place on September 1937?
Cheers,
CNE503

Hello to all ; something (at least)...........................
Commanding Officer of Heeres-Fallschirm Infanterie Kompanie 1937.
Certainly he was not Hilmar but another Zahn; also we can ascertain that he was not moved to the Luftwaffe...................

Hello CNE503 ; I told you this man is a very elusive ones..........................

The only Zahn that matches the rank or year...............
Hauptmann 01.10.34 ZAHN Volkmar (Stab Pion.Lehr Bat.) Oberstleutnant (01.04.42) - author of the Pionier Fibel
Oberleutnant 01.10.37 ZAHN Hans 11.10.1912-09.06.1940 (Inf.Reg.104) Hauptmann (01.06.40)
I think the man was Volkmar....(the sapper always got entangled with weird things).......

Hola Raúl!
Yes, it seems to be the guy. Sources indicate that he was a captain when he took command of the company, so he should have been its first commander.
But if you read the following thread (/viewtopic.php?t=4735), you didn't find any mention of it in his personal career records...
