sick of the rookies
Re: sick of the rookies
That bothers you? Hausser had a lot of respect from his men- being a retired Reichswehr general he knew what he was doing and didn't throw his men into impossible situations. And on at least two occasions because he led from the front he got wounded- the first time losing an eye in the East and the second coming out of the Falaise pocket lying on a tank. I wish some publisher would translate his memoirs.

Re: sick of the rookies
I sometimes get annoyed at myself for thinking that everyone has started off where I am now and so knows as much about a subject as I do, silly of me for being so big headed really. Perhaps some of you might think this way instead of being a..holes.

Whoa! I was emphasizing until that last phrase. Was that necessary? We need basic courtesy between members.
Re: sick of the rookies
How rude... And I don't think this thread deserves such a lack of courtesy, even if someone can surely disagree with its purpose.

You get it an anonymous forums sooner or later- the moderators keep a pretty firm control on that stuff though. I just rry to treat people like I'd want to be treated.
Re: sick of the rookies
I always found funny the way some of the veterans from WW2 say that every gun was a 88 and every tank was a tiger.
I remember my uncle saying that he was wounded by a Spandau.
BTW; C'mon you guys, let's all play nice.

Irritated only when they are rude or smug even when presented with contrary information. Applies to everyone included well read folks. Well, that is the Internet and the keyboard toughguy is a reality and wiki and podcasts makes everyone an expert. There is another forum I avoid because one of the oldest posters is perennially obnoxious to new folk.
I will say this is the best moderated forum I am on.

Re: sick of the rookies
We were all rookies at one time and believed a lot of misconceptions. Why, seriously, when I was five years old, I wondered why my German/American speaking parents would call people a common object. I can remember the first time I heard my Dad say clearly "His is phone" (E ist ein Von).
Re: sick of the rookies
Hello
The one thing that really get to me, is not so much on this fine forum, rather in the news media and in history programs on TV etc. etc. It is when all German is Nazi - "nazi this and nazi that" for instance - a nazi airplane, tank, treasure, warship, etc. etc. In my book a "thing" can not be nazi as Nationalsozialismus is a term that apply to people - people can be nazis and have that as their belief.

Hi kstdk,
Yes. The regime was Nazi, and several million Germans were too, but the bulk of the armed forces and German population were not card carrying Nazis.
The Nazis wouldn't have had to create the W-SS and National Socialist Guidance Officers if they were 100% sure of the "Naziness" of the bulk of the German armed forces and people.
Cheers,
Sid.

Come on all. When correcting we
should correct ourselves first.
How many (english speaking)
hoover the house instead of
vacuum cleaning... or am I just
old like aspirin (marketing name!), I prefer acetylsalicylic acid in any pill form!
Many simply say cola or even
just coke for a sweet dark cool
soft sparkly drink.
And is it an internet or a world wide web?
If the first, then why always http://www.etcetc...?
Some even use the term President when
speaking of Trump...
Or muslims believe in Allah...
But is'nt that God?
I'm sure there's more examples.
The "nazi" example above does limit
the ship/tank/plane and so on to a
specific period in time when the NS
were in power...

Re: sick of the rookies
Another I just thought of that's really irritating is when PROFESSIONAL HISTORIANS and DEGREED AUTHORS refer to "Romel's Adrika Korps" all the way to the end in Africa when his command had become a Panzergruppe with the Corps just a part of it in August 1941 and upgraded to Panzerarmee Afrika in January 1942. Even when describing the end in Tunis in May 1943 some were still calling it "the defeat of the Afrika Korps" in May 1943 when it was a whole Army Group with two armies by February.

Re: sick of the rookies
Hi genstab,
Can we have specific examples?
I would also note that our very own Axis History Fact Book says:
The Deutsches Afrikakorps (also Afrika Korps) was destroyed in Tunisia 16 May 1943.
Commanders
Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Rommel (14 Feb 1941 - 15 Aug 1941)
Generalleutnant Ferdinand Schaal (15 Aug 1941 - 1 Sep 1941)
General der Panzertruppen Philipp Müller-Gebhard (1 Sep 1941 - 15 Sep 1941)
General der Panzertruppen Ludwig Crüwell (15 Sep 1941 - 9 Mar 1942)
General der Panzertruppen Walther Nehring (9 Mar 1942 - 19 Mar 1942)
General der Panzertruppen Ludwig Crüwell (19 Mar 1942 - 29 May 1942)
General der Panzertruppen Walther Nehring (29 May 1942 - 31 Aug 1942)
Generalleutnant Fritz Bayerlein (31 Aug 1942 - 1 Sep 1942)
General der Panzertruppen Gustav von Värst (1 Sep 1942 - 2 Sep 1942)
General der Panzertruppen Wilhelm Ritter von Thoma (2 Sep 1942 - 13 Nov 1942)
General der Panzertruppen Gustav Fehn (13 Nov 1942 - 15 Jan 1943)
General der Panzertruppen Hans Cramer (28 Feb 1943 - 16 May 1943)
So it would appear that the Afrika Korps continued to exist within the higher formations commanded by Rommel until he left Africa on 9 March 1943.
Cheers,
Sid
