Websites about the Waffen SS
Websites about the Waffen SS
The Internet is full of websites about the Waffen SS, not to mention pictures, but I'm looking for a site were i can follow the different divisions thru the war period. Is there any site out there which is based on facts, and not feelings or opinions, that you would recommend? Please post suggestions on any good sites about the Waffen SS.
Re: Websites about the Waffen SS
Bringing up my post. A list of recommended web pages about the Waffen SS would be really helpful for many of us history buffs If you have any suggestions and recommendations, please post 'em here. Anyone?

Re: Websites about the Waffen SS
Look up the old wssob.com on Archive.org. It will take a bit of digging, but there's a lot of good info.
Re: Websites about the Waffen SS
Thanks for the tips Christian, but what I'm looking for is more like a list of a few great websites about the Waffen SS worth visiting. There are simply too many sites out there to search through. What are your own favorite blogs and websites? Any chance you guys might have recommendations for me?

http://www.waffen-ss.nl/english.php is a pretty good website about the Dutch Waffen-SS.
What about Wikipedia? They have plenty of pages about SS-Divisions, although most are not really in-dept/basic info.

Re: Websites about the Waffen SS
Most English language wiki pages about Waffen-SS units and members have been deleted or thoroughly edited to meet the demands of a handful of wiki admins who dislike any attention for this organisation. For that matter the German wiki pages provide more detailed info.PatrickBateman wrote:http://www.waffen-ss.nl/english.php is a pretty good website about the Dutch Waffen-SS.

Mr Bateman, thank you for your website tips on the Dutch volunteers. I enjoyed it the most! Some more tips from the forum members would be much appreciated - what are your own favorite blogs and websites about the Waffen SS?

Re: Websites about the Waffen SS
Hi pjotr,
In pursuing a specific W-SS site of the kind you are, you are essentially making a political, not a military choice.
In purely military terms, there was almost nothing distinctive about the W-SS, which was essentially a military clone of the German Army, and therefore there is no military-historical reason to give it a specialist site.
If you want the military aspects of the W-SS put into historical context, rather than into a historical vacuum, I would suggest you would be better advised to follow broader-based forums such as AHF.
If you want to compromise between the relative military-historical detachment of AHF and out-and-out W-SS groupiedom, you might also try Feldgrau.
Cheers,
Sid.

Stabswache De Euros offering lots of relevant and accurate information. I've been following that site since at least 2012. I've also made some contributions over the years. If you are new to the subject, you might find it helpful to search this forum for info. Using the AHF, you will find threads on almost any WW2 topic, including the Waffen-SS. Cheers!

Re: Websites about the Waffen SS
Hi Paul K.,
Stabswache De Euros looks like a well organized site.
However, its disclaimer that it is both "Non-Political" and is".....only to explore the combat role and history of the European W-SS" is disingenuous.
As I wrote above, "In pursuing a specific W-SS site..... (one is) essentially making a political, not a military choice."
In purely military terms, there was almost nothing distinctive about the W-SS, which was essentially a military clone of the German Army, and therefore there is no military-historical reason to give it a specialist site."
Studying the combat role of the senior W-SS divisions as part of the panzerwaffe is non-political, but to study it as a discrete subject is to make a political choice, wittingly or unwittingly, because its politics were essentially the only aspect of the W-SS that distinguished it from the Army.
Cheers,
Sid.

If you had a choice (after the war had started) which branch would you choose? SS or W
Re: Websites about the Waffen SS
Stabswache the Euros is indeed an awesome site for those interested in Waffen-SS, but I can not find anything worthy on the net for us interested in the whole SS organization. Sure, this forum has a lot of useful information but I would like to read more about the General SS. If any of you guys have any tips for me, I would really appreciate it.
