Korps identification symbols

#1

Post by andlug » 09 Jun 2019, 10:59

Can anyone say what the Korps ID symbols were for the Korps which participated in the Ardennes Offensive 1944-45 ( Battle of the Bulge).

I have looked at the available published sources, but they do not cover the less glamorous Korps.

Specifically I am looking for
53 Korps
66 Korps
67 Korps
74 Korps
80 Korps
82 Korps
85 Korps
1 SS Pz Korps
2 SS Pz Korps
47 Pz Korps
58 Pz Korps

Hello,

I don't understand your question. Do you mean the how these corps were indicated on a map?
The symbol is quite the same for every corps HQ: a squared flag divided in four triangles, the upper and below ones being black, the two on the sides white. If armored, the corps flag had a parallelogram figuring tracks at its basis. The corps number was indicated besides the flag.

Usually each Korps had a unique symbol to mark its vehicles and other assets (kennzeichen in German). Often they were heraldic symbols, or abstract shapes like arrows. That is what I am looking for.

Ok, you were referring to tactical markings.
As far as I know, I. SS-Panzerkorps one is very well-known.

Yes, I just included ISS for completeness. II SS is also available. It is the other ones that are missing.
