At the outbreak of war, all those who were fielded as part of the Waffen-SS's precursor units were regular employees of the state. Presumably in peacetime they were on pay scales that were sufficient to allow them to live a full peacetime family existence.
Likewise, I imagine the regular Army had pay scales that allowed them sufficient resources to marry, bring up children, accumulate possessions, etc., etc..
However, at the outbreak of war mobilized conscripts presumably did not get pay at much above subsistence levels. I assume the same was true of Waffen-SS volunteers.
What happened to the pay of regular Army men and those Waffen-SS men who had been state employees? Were they still paid at peacetime rates?
Indeed, were Army and Waffen-SS pay scales the same?
Is there any study on this matter?
Many thanks,
Sid.

Hi Guys,
The link doesn't really answer the questions I posed, but thanks anyway.
Cheers,
Sid.
