Hi
I have seen a few references to Panzer divisions with only one panzer battalion and no or very few panthers but am struggling to remember. 25th I think was one - but I recall it being back in refit by the summer of 44. Can anyone point me in the direction of panzer divisons with non-standard panzer regiments at around this time?
Thanks
Eastern Front - Mid 44 Panzer Division with no Panthers.
Re: Eastern Front - Mid 44 Panzer Division with no Panthers.
Hello!
8. Pz.Div. (only I./10 with IV's but had I./11 with Panthers attached to it),
17. Pz.Div. (only II./39 with IV's),
20. Pz.Div. (only III./21 (aka Pz.Abt. 21) with IVs)
25. Pz.Div. (no Panthers),
3. SS (only II./3 with IV's and 9th cp. with Tigers)
If you count Tarnopol in the Spring of 1944 as Mid 44:
9. SS (only II./9 with IV's and StuG)
10. SS (only II./10 with IV's and StuG)

This table might help
In short:
1 Pz.D. had a Panther battalion
3 Pz.D - organic battalion attached to Pz.Lehr.D.
4 Pz.D - received an organic battalion in June 44
5 Pz.D - also in June 44
6 Pz.D - organic Panther battalion was attached to 8 Pz.D
7 Pz.D - received its Panther battalion in July 44
8 Pz.D - no own battalion, a battalion from the 6 Pz.D attached
12 Pz.D - no Panther battalion
13 Pz.D. - organic Panther battalion attached to 26 Pz.D
14 Pz.D. - received its Panther battalion in August 44
16 Pz.D. - had an organic Panther battalion
17 Pz.D. - didn't
19 Pz.D. - received a Panther battalion in August 44
20 Pz.D. - no Panther battalion
23 Pz.D. - organic battalion available
24 Pz.D. - organic Panther battalion attached to 116 P.D.
"GD" division - received organic Panther battalion in August 1944, I/Pz.Rgt.26 attached until then
3 SS-Pz.D. - organic Panther battalion received in July 44
5 SS.-Pz.D - organic battalion available
"HG" division transferred to the Eastern Front having an unique organization with no Panthers.
I might notice that a "standard" organization was in fact not so standard. Also in many instances battalions were shuffled between divisions.
