Aufklärungs-Abteilung KStNs, 1939

Hello,

I resume my questions about the particular organization of each divisional subunit at the outbreak of the war. I'm looking for organizational schemes for a 2. Welle Infanterie-Division only (although I do know that it could be the same than 1. Welle units).

I was able to find the following data:
- Abteilungsstab: 6/2*/8/36//52;
- Nachrichtenzug: 1/5/25//31;
- Reiterschwadron: 4/30/190//224;
- Radfahrschwadron: 4/26/173//203;
- schwere Schwadron: 4/19/79//102;
- Grand total: 19/2*/88/503//612.

But I was not able at all to find what was the company organization that corresponded to these figures, even though I dig in Leo's reconstructed KStN:
- KStN 302 "Stab eines Aufklärungs-Abteilungs (teilmotorisiert)" v.1.10.37;
- KStN 366 "Nachrichtenzug des Stabes eines Aufklärungs-Abteilungs" v.1.10.37;
- KStN 312 "Reiterschwadron" v.1.10.37;
- KStN 353 "Radfahrschwadron" v.1.10.37;
- for the schwere Schwadron: KStN 323 "Schwadronstrupp", 341 "Panzerabwehr-Zug", 343 "Kavalleriegeschütz-Zug" and 371 "Panzerspähtrupp" v.1.10.37 and 1.10.38 (for the last one).
The figures didn't correspond, for instance I found 4/15/67//86 for the schwere Schwadron, 6/23/158//187 for the Radfahrschwadron, 5/27/167//189 for the Reiterschwadron.

Thank you for any help provided.

*up*

No one about the internal organization of an infantry division Aufklärungs-Abteilung in September 1939?

I did have a look at the subject a long while ago, and decided there was just nothing left in terms of KStN to work with. From what others have told me I think there's only 353 left from the pre or early war period, and nothing else off the list you've already compiled. Trying to reverse engineer so many elements just within the framework of the rank numbers, that's too much even for me!

Fair enough Gary. Thank you for your help!
If you possess the KStN for the Radfahrschwadron, I'm interested in.

I didn't want to put you off, sorry, I just don't think there's anything left to build the picture from. Fingers crossed something may appear, but right now I don't think myself that there is a source for that information. 353 is on Christoph's site, it isn't a KStN that I have myself.

It also doesn't appear to match with the Gliederung on Leo's website for the 1939 Inf Divs, which show, with some variation still, mostly 9 LMGs and 2 HMGs, while the 353 table shows 9 LMGs + 9 reserve LMGs, and 3x 5-cm mortars.

Hi CNE 503,
I checked my files too, and I agree with Gary, the only organization of that period I can find is the 353 of sept 39 in Awender's site, but I think that at start of the war the 37 version was used, and nobody seems to have it.

Max
