I just posted this in the Ottoman section...

Kalmü = Kalmücke which refers to or suggests Kalmyk Steppe or people.

So hill 256 was named after the Kalmyk Steppe or people. They is why it shows up on old Soviet maps, and it has nothing to do with German divisions in WW II.
