7th Ersatz Kompanie, LSSAH

#1

Hi there,

On a death notice I have come across the EM (Erkennungsmarke or dogtags) of a former member of the 14th Pz Pi Kompanie, SS Pz Rgt 1.

He must have been in one of the first intakes to this 7th E. Kp. as his number was very low:

'70 - SS Vfg Tr/ 7 E. LSSAH'

I was just wondering if anyone knows when this 7th E Kompanie was formed?

This would allow me to work out when the man ended up in the 3rd Pionier Kompanie LSSAH, which then later became the 9th (and 14th) Kompanie in the Panzer Regiment. The man, Albert Hafner, died from wounds suffered at Kursk.

He probably joined the field unit in September 1941, when for the first time the recruits were divided among the sub-units of the Division at random: 1 to 10 to the infantry, 11-20 to the artillery, 21-30 to the Pionier, etc.

Thanks for any help with this - although I have very many books on the LSSAH, I don't have much on the replacement units.

Cheers
Steve

Bundesarchiv RS 18/137 which covers August 1939 only mentions 1-4 companies in SS-Ers.Btl. LSSAH.
According to Tessin there were 1-8 companies in May 1942.

Unfortunately RS 5/1039 covering up to May 1940 is in Freiburg and not digitized yet.
Perhaps someone in Archive section has a copy?

Hi Roland,

Thanks very much for this.

So it appears that he must have joined the LSSAH in the reshuffle period in mid 1942.

Thanks again
Steve
