Identifying a young Waffen SS soldier

#1

Post by shellym » 29 Nov 2021, 03:23

Hello,

A friend of mine has asked me to post these two photos of his grandfather. All he knows is that he was in the Waffen SS. Is there is anything else you might be able to identify from the photographs?

Kind regards

Michelle

Yes, in the second picture he was serving in the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler with a rank of Lance-Corporal ( SS-Sturmmann ).

Later in the first picture, war time, he held rank of SS-Unterscharführer ( Sergeant ), he gets an Iron Cross of second class,
a Wound Badge, an Infantry Assault Badge, and a SA Sports Badge.

A chevron of antiquity in the SS, on the left sleeve, and a whistle cord in his left pocket can be seen too.

Can I ask you if he survived the war ? Thanks.

Hello von thoma

I am impressed with your swift reply and information - thank you very much indeed! My friend will be very grateful. I will pass this on, and yes, this man did survive the war.

Cheers

Michelle
