Capture of Kirishi

#1

Post by Naveed Shahzad » 20 Aug 2022, 13:49

Hi All,

I know that XXXIX Motorized Koprs captured Kirishi during its advance to Tikhvin in October 1941. I have some questions:

1- Which unit of the Korps captured it, I am confused among the 18th MID, 11th ID and 21st ID.
2- Exact date of capture?
3- Any documents available in respect of the capture of Kirishi.

Regards

According to NARA T-315 R-574 (11.ID) Kirishi was captured by 3pm on the Oct 25th by IR24 from 21.ID.
Ideally, you would need to find confirmation in T-315 R-751 (21.ID) which I don't have.

I think confusion comes from the fact that New Kirishi (just West of Volkhov river - opposite Kirishi) together with important railway junction 2.5km further to the West, was already captured (18.ID mot) by Oct.1st, in following days taken over by 11.ID.

Thanks, GregSingh for your reply. I would also like to know that around when Bridgehead at Kirishi was created during the German retreat from Tikhvin.
