Landesschützen Bataillon 882

Hello! I recently received a letter from the Bundesarchiv regarding my great-grandfather's service and the names of the units were mentioned there. Does anyone have any information about these units? There are several of them, and I don't understand why three units are replaced in 1943 alone. I need a feldpost number a specific unit in which my great-grandfather served so that I could continue my research.
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Greetings!

LIST OF UNITS FROM LETTER FROM BUNDESARCHIV:

The wanted person was first reported in 1939 in the 11th company unit
472 Infantry Regiment (Federal Archive signature: B 563/82967).
The following additional uses are mentioned in the directories:

• 2nd Company Transport Security Battalion 882
reported:
1943

• 1st Company Landesschützen Training Battalion 8
reported:
1943

• Stamm-Kompanie Landesschützen Reserve Battalion 8
reported:
1943

The wanted person was last recorded in 1944 as a member of the Stamm-Kompa-
never listed Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 8

:welcome:

These records should be in German. Having them half in English, half in German makes research difficult.

Looks like at some point he was transferred from Infanterie-Regiment 472 (252.Infanterie-Division)
to security and later to training units. eg. Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 8.
Could be several reasons for this, eg. being wounded in action or because of older age.

True, sorry for the mixed ranks. Below they are in German:
- 11. Kompanie Infanterie-Regiment 472
- 2. Kompanie Transport-Sicherungs-Bataillon 882
- 1. Kompanie Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon 8
- Stamm-Kompanie Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 8
- Stamm Kompanie Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 8

Great-grandfather was born in 1905, so when the war broke out he was 34 years old and in 1943 he was 38 years old. That would explain the transfers to the rear units.
I have one more question, is it possible to find the old letters in any German institution? Where can you apply and what data do you need to have?
