KAL / K.A.L. ?

#1

Post by kim.dehn » 07 Dec 2022, 11:01

Hello
Is there anyone in the congregation who can help me?
A postcard from a Finnish volunteer (Hauptmann) is sent from "Swinemünde, KAL".
What does KAL stand for?
The only reference I can find online is on the Danish website:
”Kommandeur der K.A.L. Swinemünde, Kpt.z.See Babel” who participates in a meeting –
(Tekster om pejlestationerne (hanstholmregistreringen.dk)).
Hoping for help from that forum - thanks in advance.

Best regards…..Kim

Hi Kim,

the German abbreviation KAL was, for example "KAL: Küstenartillerie-Lehrabteilung", this would fit the place "Swinemünde".

The link to the PDF file, 118 pages, download size is 3.69 Megabyte
"Abkürzungen der NS-Zeit / Heinz Boberach, Rolf Thommes und Hermann Weiß"

Direct link to the PDF file:

The above work is one of the best German summaries of German abbreviations of that time, very helpful and widely praised.

Good luck with your research! :milwink:

Here is the discussion topic of German abbreviations in the "FdW", which started already in the year 2007:

Ergänzungs / Diskussionsthread zu Abkürzungen der Wehrmacht / A bis Z
Link: https://www.forum-der-wehrmacht.de/inde ... /&pageNo=1

Very complex, but of course never ending...

Actually, I don't like such bean counter topics at all, these are already a certain agony in a German-speaking forum.
But if you finally get involved, you are challenged, even if it's mostly just about the correct spelling of the abbreviations of the time...
