Estonian Waffen-Art.Regt.20 in 1945

Post by Peter » 19 Nov 2023 15:29

Please can anybody tell me the locations/actions of the IV (schwere) Artillerie Abteilung in Feb-May 1945, particularly interested in 10.(schwere) Batterie. I believe they had no artillery guns at this stage and were fighting as infantry?
thank you

Information from: Georg Iltal. Kohustus kutsub. Eesti Leegioni suurtükiväelasena II maailmasõjas. Tallinn, 1997

In January the IV Abteilung remained in Neuhammer because of lack of artillery guns. In the beginning of Februrary two batteries (they had at least part of their guns) were sent to the front near Stranz (by the Bober river) attached to KG Kegeler. There both batteries had to abandon their guns, part of them were destroyed by the crews before retreat. The crews retreated to Sagan (crossing the river Queis), from there they were sent to Ziegenhals where the divisional reserve was located. Later the IV Abteilung was moved to Hirschberg where they received new guns in the beginning of May.
