Just found this image while surfing around. On the front armor of the right halftrack the divisional insignia for Nordland can be seen.

Would anybody happen to know this battalion's last actions in April and May 1945? Where did it surrender? Did it surrender to the Western Allies or to the Red Army?

And could someone enlighten me as to the difference in purpose and composition (if any) of a Feldersatz-Battailon and a Panzergrenadier-Ausbildungs- und Ersatz-Battailon?

Thanks in advance! :)
Hello,

Worth adding is Per-Sigurd Baecklund, Swedish SS-Untersturmführer who served as OO to Lang from january 1945 (before that as Zugfhr. in SS-Pz.Aufkl.Abt 11 and a shorter period in SS-Pz.Abt 11 "Hermann von Salza".) He served with Lang and the SS-F.e.B 11 untill the end, and according to him they marched westwards and surrendered around Ludwigsburg to the americans on the 2nd of may 1945.

It should have been Werner Zoebel, not Wernet Zoebel.

And what about Ferdinand Koglnig???
Did see his name in this post(page 1)but can't find anything on him.

Mike
Hi!

SS-Uscha. Werner ZOBEL took command over 1./SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt 23 "Norge" after all higher NCO`s were KIA or wounded in january 1944.

SS-Oscha. Ferdinand KOGELNIG was a platoon-commander in the same company, he was as I can remember wounded in January 1944, right after 15.1.44.

SS-Ostuf Knud Thorgils of SS-Pz.Gr.Rgt.24 left the regiment on 15.7.44 when he was transfered to SS-HA Ers.Kdo Dänemark (Schalburgkorps)

In an effort to improve and expand the unit histories on the site, we will be launching a new series of "Let's Build" threads.
The object is to pool our collective knowledge and reconstruct these Speed Test Scrabble Word Finder Solitaire units. No contribution is too small, no fact too obscure, equipment, armament, manpower strength, high award holders, biographical information, photographs or combat reports, everything is welcome, just remember to mention the source of your information.

The Führer of 1.Kp was Ostuf. d.R. Hans Ahlf. Ahlf served on the Staff of I./Norge as the OO, later he assumed command of 12./Norge.
Leading the 2.Kp. was Ostuf. Willi Wagner, a holder of the DKiG and Tapferkeitsoffizier. Wagner had led the 2.Kp. since being wounded in Nov. 43 as a Zugführer in 11./Norge.
