Hallo Koen,

The VGD were not organized in one structure with a central command. They were late war infantry divisions and as such assigned in Korps and Armee structures.

Ik hoop dat dit helpt.

Cheers,
Timo

If you need more specific info, feel free to ask.

What Timo has said is correct and that a lot of the VGD units were previously front line divisions that through combat had been reduced in numbers or destroyed, and were thus re-constituted as VGD units. Some VGD units actually served in the Replacement Army until being posted to the Field Army. The Replacement Army until July'44 was under the command of Generaloberst Fritz Fromm then it passed to Himmler, for what period I do not know.
