Post by Wiking Ruf » 20 Feb 2004 17:44

Wanted:
All the information, pictures and/or data concerning
5. SS-Pz.Div. 'Wiking'. Special interest goes to 'Westland', SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt. 10.
Every bit is welcome since I'm in the middle of an update of my site.

Why do you list Ritterkreuzträger Gerhard Fischer as fallen on your site?
Why do you keep an image of a SS-Untersturmführer from III./SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment 25 on the mainpage to your site if it's about Wiking?

Best regards/ Daniel

I forget...
was 5. SS-Panzer-Division "Wiking" comprised of Dutch or Austrian soldiers?
and did it have any German officers or large bodies of German units?

Well, the main body of the division was formed around Germans. By that I mean the officers and NCO's.
Especially in the Westland regiment, there were many Belgians, Dutch and Scandinavian volunteers. But also in the Germania regiment it was common. I once saw a picture with text that said: "Here they are, the Wiking soldiers. This group was made out of 7 nationalities".
The 3rd batt was at first made out of the finnish volunteers, in the spring of '43 they were replaced by the Estonian freiwilligen pz.gren.battallion 'Narwa'
Of course there was also 'Sturmbrigade Wallonie' , lead by Lucien Lippert before they had their own "division" Leon Degrelle must be the most famous Belgian. Gerardes Mooyman the most famous dutch, since he was the first foreign volunteer to recieve the KC in 1943 8O

Dank je, ja voorlopig wel. Misschien in de toekomst ook 23. "Nederland". Bedankt voor het compliment
Thanks, for the moment I stay with Wiking. Perhaps in the future 23. "Nederland" will be added too.
