Leibstandarte's partys

#1

Post by c.g. » 23 Feb 2004, 18:21

Hello,
among the pictures that I have got from the family of a former Leibstandarte member - an NCO from I./PGR 2) there are three that are related to what seems to be a big festivity (if it was not the SS I would say it is XMas). I know it is a long shot, but amazing things have happened in this forum ...
My questions are:
1) Is it possible to identify the Hstf. and the general next to Dietrich?
2) Does anyone has a clue in regard to the event?
Thanks in advance
C.G.

After reading your post and watching the first pic, my first guess seeing his side-view that could be Kurt Meyer.

In that case the pic should have been taken somewhere after his 1934 entrance in the Leibstandarte. Rank that "Meyer" has is either Obersturmfuehrer or Haupsturmfuehrer which means 1st lieutenant or captain. My guess is that he is on that picture captain, which should be correct because he first served in LAH's anti-tank company (Panzerjägerkompanie). First as a platoon leader and later as its commander.

The latter pic also appears in Lehmann - Leibstandarte as taken on 26 January 1939 at the Berlin-Zoo Festsaal on the occasion of the "Leibstandarten-Ball". My best guess for the Hauptsturmfhr would be Hans Collani, Dietrich's adjutant.

The general is unidentified.

Thank you very much for your replies.
Svennie, I don't have that volume of the LAH history, are you implying that the picture that is published there is the same as mine? Or are just different photographs of the the same subject?
Best regards

Agree with Svennie - it is Hans Collani.

C.G.

your third picture with Dietrich and the Heeresgeneral is indeed published in Lehmann, Leibstandarte Band I. It is exactly the same one.

The general next to Dietrich appears to be a Generalleutnant. It looks like he is displaying a WWI Prussian-pattern aerial observer badge.

This is interesting. It looks like these pictures are part of a series of phographs taken at that particular event that could be purchased by the participants.
No backgroud info on the "Ball der Leibstandarte"? Had the 26th of January a particular meaning? Was it a recurrent event or did it just take place in 1939?
Many thanks to all who helped

Lehmann, S.130:

Many thanks Svennie,
so the guy looking like he had one Schnaps "über den Durst" could be von Brauchitsch.

C.G.,
our general is not Von Brauchitsch. He does not look like Brauchitsch and he has the wrong rank (generalleutnant instead of generaloberst).

In the first picture I wonder who the woman is next to Dietrich could it be the wife of Karl Brenner (Later Genlt der Pol and SS Gruf) who was having an affair with Dietrich
