Cristoph is right :)
No cuff titles on any of them , no SS collar patches but the breast Heer eagles are tough to spot here.
Indeed these are Wehrmacht troops near the Panther.

I was also a bit confused about seeing not even ONE camo uniform or helm-cover.

Magnificent pic. is'nt it. There's no problem with the mixed content as such. This pic. is always captioned as being from the Kovel operations, but may be in April The Panther R02 is obviously from SSPR5 (5SSPD Wiking). II/SSPR5 was under command 4PD at the time. From other sources, StG44's were first issued to 131ID. From OOB 2 Army 15Apr44: LVIPzK 5Jg, 5PD, 4PD, SSW, 131., 253, SkiJg.

Only thing is was Regt. Staff and Staff Company SSPR5 also present (R02). Although SSW is on OOB it must have been remnants from previous division as 5SSPD was rebuilt from scratch from this time.

So if all is well, the infantry are from 131ID.

As Roger Griffiths mentioned,If the callsign number of Panther in background is R02,i may say these are troops of SS-Pz.Div.5 " Wiking" because of R02 was command panzer of SS-Pz.Reg.5.I don't elect it in this photo may be more detail will help.

I agree with you Roger, this is a wonderful picture, thanks for the info.
You guys must have hawk eyes to see the R02.

Wiking was a much photographed formation, and most of their Panther were included. There are more frames from this series in various books.
Unfortunately, I/SSPR5 with 2 Coys. StugIV and 2 of PanzerIV which joined July '44 was much less photographed.

One includes apparent SS infantry and empty SPW 251/7's. So the 'infantry' were probably SS Panzer Engineers from II/SSPR5 Staff Company. Interestingly one pic. shows a Bef I with 4PD markings. I guess that was the 'rear link' between 4PD and II/SSPR5.

As Roger and Tolga said, there are many pictures of the Wiking Div., could anyone post images of this unit? I have seen some but I would like to see more if there are.
Kind regards.
