You can tell there is an bond between the soldier and the dog.

Shame we have to enter in wars and kill each other but we drag in
animals who lose their lives for something they have no wish to be
in. One can only hope their last days are with people who showed
them respect and even love. Yes, I like animals...all of them.

Re: Unknow SS Unit? (Abteilung für d. Hundewesen d. Waffen-SS)

Post by coldwarspook » 19 Apr 2015 16:59

Greetings,Axis History Kameraden : I may be missing something, but is the first photo in this sequence not of WW1 vintage,or perhaps between wars? The gas masks are from that era,as is the helmet, the insignia on it,and the shoulder tab on the uniform. I don't believe that the chevron on the sleeve is SS insignia ; looks more like a regular Heer Gefreiter patch,or another one of those lower enlisted ranks.
Can't identify that type of rifle (possibly a carbine)- looks like a standard Gewehr 98 or variation of it. Guess that could appear in a photo from either era.
Comment or assistance,anyone?
Cheers,

coldwarspook
