Hi Peter89,

You post, "I seriously doubt that 50%."

I would recommend that you read the Reich Statistical Yearbook for 1941 and compare it with that of 1933. (Both are available on line in full: https://www.digizeitschriften.de/dms/to ... N514401303).

The Catholic population grew from about a third of the total to about half, equal with the Protestants. The reason for this was that the German populations gained over that period were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic.

Cheers,

Sid.

P.S. I seem to recall that that the 1941 edition does not even include Alsace and Lorraine. Perhaps you could confirm that?

P.P.S. For anyone interested, the following has details of the role of Roman Catholic priests and seminarians in the Wehrmacht: https://repository.library.brown.edu/st ... r:103/PDF/
Sorry Sid, I thought you mention the total population of the Reich (which only grew by cca.25%), not the RC ones. You are right.
"Everything remained theory and hypothesis. On paper, in his plans, in his head, he juggled with Geschwaders and Divisions, while in reality there were really only makeshift squadrons at his disposal."

No problem.

Thanks for the reply.

So often posters leave their entries uncorrected, which leaves later readers unsure as to what to believe.

In appreciation,

Sid.
