Did the Wehrmacht specify a particular design for the bicycles that were going to be used by their troops, or did they just place large orders for designs that were already being manufactured? Which bicycle companies provided bikes for the Wehrmacht?

Hi Guys,

I had a Dutch girlfriend in the 1980s.

She told me that later in the war, when the Germans were running short of motor transport, they conducted mass requisitions of Dutch bicycles.

As a result, decades after the war, older Dutch people sometimes used to shout "Where's my bike?" at German tourists. I was told recently by a Dutchman I was driving to the airport that this still sometimes happens!

Cheers,

Sid.
