Some of these bicycle companies still exist today.Prior to the outbreak of the war the manufacture of bicycles for the military
was undertaken by civilian firms, which were also manufacturing bicycles for
the general public.
These firms manufactured the bicycles according to their
own design and little or no adaptations were made for a singular military use. These firms included:
