Hello Antonio,

hm, you said it, another Hoffmann :-)

I haven't checked 61. Inf.Div. files yet, it may be possible to find out this name, will put that on my to-do-list for my next Freiburg visit!

Hi Anntonio,

he got the EK2 while still an Obergefreiter in January 1943, so I think he was freshly promoted to gun commander.

Thanks for adding this guy!

From Geschichte der 10. Division
10. Infanterie-Division, 10. Panzer-Grenadier-Division, 1933-1945 Pag.184

From newspaper clippings, Willinger was gunner in a Self Propelled Gun.

Hello Antonio,

well, the Anerkennungsurkunde for Willinger was awarded on 5.11.1943, for action on 14.9.1943 at Peski. The newspaper is from 7.10.1943 and refers to the EK1 award to Ogfr. Willinger (who also became a Unteroffizier) the same day.

Willinger got the EK1 on 26.7.1943, so the action described must have happened on 26.7.1943. I know that the Anerkennungsurkunde was awarded for an proposal for the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold, so he had a list of several actions sent to Berlin, but just the 14.9.1943 action leads him to an award.

I found a note from myself, doing a visit to the Armeemuseum Amberg several years ago, that Uffz. Willinger at least had 21 tank kills to his credit.

Hello Antonio, nice find!

He destroyed 4 tanks, among them 1 T60 (at least during the actions described, explaining his DKiG), damaged 2 tanks and chased off another 2 T34, so his personal score is = 4 tanks.

Christian Mandt isn't listed in Volksbund Kriegsgräberfürsorge database ...

Hello Antonio,

he of course is a "new one", for sure :-)

Well, Volksbund Kriegsgräberfürsorge list's him as Pecolt, Ottmar, died 30.7.1944:
https://www.volksbund.de/erinnern-geden ... bc4ad8c50f

Name Pecolt (instead of Pezolt) seems to be right, according to phonebook Austria and an entry within Fold3 (another Austrian with that name). Wether his forename is Otmar or Ottmar doesn't matter that much.

Marigny-le-Lozon is located to the west of St. Lo, but St. Lo at that date already occupied by the allied forces. But his grave today has nothing to do with the place Gefreiter Pecolt died, the fallen where placed at several cementries in the Normandy after the war.

Well, 2. Pz.Div. was fighting to the south of St. Lo those days and as an Austrian (birthplace = Teesdorf, Niederdonau) he could well have been a member of Pz.Rgt. 3.

Otherwise I have no information, just speculation right now, unfortunately.

I have some panzerjager aces.
Victories refer to Knight's Cross action only.
I don't know the number of total kills.

Oberstleutnant Eduard Radowski - Kdr Pz.Jäg.Abt 53 – Self Propelled - 4 kills
Unteroffizier Sebastian Schuller - Geschützführer i. d. 1./Pz.Jäg.Abt 10 – Self Propelled – 7 kills
Gefreiter Hans Krohn - Richtschütze i. d. 1./Pz.Jäg.Abt 20 – pak – 6 kills
Unteroffizier Hans-Erwin Schröder - Geschützführer i. d. 1./Pz.Jäg.Abt 20 -pak – 8kills
Obergefreiter Franz Mintert - Richtschütze i. d. Pz.Jäg.Abt 26 - pak – 7 kills
Obergefreiter Alois Assmann - Richtschütze i. d. 1./Pz.Jäg.Abt 61- pak -9 kills
Obergefreiter Alois Feld - Pz.Jg.Abt. 132 – pak -7 kills
Obergefreiter Josef Röder - Richtschütze i. d. 3./Pz.Jäg.Abt 179 – pak – 7 kills
Oberfeldwebel Franz Siebert - Zugführer i. d. 3./Pz.Jäg.Abt 306 – Self Propelled – 10 kills
Oberleutnant Rudolf Schneider - Kp.Chef i. d. Schnellen Abt. 342 - pak - 8 kills

Hello Antonio,

thank you for these listing. I can't add much on them, usually going conform with my own notes, but:

Radowski: he as a Oberstleutnant was Kommandeur of Pz.Jg.Abt. 53 which indeed had some self-propelled guns, but this 4 tank kills he scores with a 5 cm towed Pak. I think information should come from the book on 5. Pz.Div. (which I didn't have, just had it on loan several years ago).

Assmann: he had 8 tank kills (not 9) during his Ritterkreuz action (see attached), but of course he must have had more total kills as he served as a gunner from the beginning of "Barbarossa" (according to traces-of-war).

Siebert: do you have a newspaper clipping for him? I haven't found anything ...

Koch: 9 tank kills is right, so far, but it's not for the action on 30.1.1942 (as per traces-of-war), but for action on 18.7.1941 at Nitjashi. Here he destroyed 9 tanks and got the EK1 and was promoted to Feldwebel and got his second mention in the Ehrenblatt. First mention was for action on 1.7.1941 at Borissow.
The Ritterkreuz action didn't involve soviet tanks, but he fought off strong soviet infantry assault (see attached):
