Solar was the code name for Skorzeny during the preparations for the Ardennes offensive. KG Solar was formed from all of the SS-units in the Schwedt/Zehden bridgehead in February/March 1945:
I./Solar: SS-FJB 600,
II./Solar: SS-JVB Mitte,
sSS-IG kp.
SS-Sturm kp.
SS-Nachr.kp.
SS-Scharfsch.Zug
SS-Vers.kp.
Mark V.

Thanks for the info...But I am still not clear, was Solar the name of a kampfgruppe or an official/unofficial name for some scratch unit. Because I am looking for all Waffen SS "named" units and i wanted to exempt Kampfgruppe "named" units..

Thanks again

Sorry for not being clear enough - first it was a KG, when the KG was disbanded the survivors amalgamated in SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt.7 which subsequently received the title Solar - Pz.Gren.Rgt.7(103) "Solar".

Ivanwss,

Never thought you took your lunch that fast. What do you have for today? Schnapps? :P

Oh yes i almost forgot, there are several Waffen SS "named" units which the reference seem to come from the Siegrunen magazine of Richard Landwehr

SS Sturmjäger Regiment "Ungarisches" (Siegrunen 52)
SS Sturmbanne "Röntgen" (Siegrunen 63)
SS Bataillon "Deggingen II" (Siegrunen 65)
SS Werfergruppe "Krosta" (Siegrunen 36)

and also Bulgarian and Rumanian SS regiments

SS Panzerzerstörer Regiment "Bulgarisches"
Waffen-Grenadier Regiment der SS "Bulgarisches" Nr. 1
Waffen-Grenadier Regiment der SS Nr. 1 "Rumanisches" Nr. 1
Waffen-Grenadier Regiment der SS Nr. 2 "Rumanisches" Nr. 2

Any more extra sources that confirm the existence of these units?

I try to do everything fast (eating as well), since i'm always short with time...

Let's not mix ungarisches, bulgarisches etc. with other "named" units.

1. Ungarische SS-Sturmjäger Regiment:

About Regiment Siebenburgen, it was formed in Kronstadt after the Romanian defection on August 23, 1944. Soviet forces were advancing rapidly into Siebenburgen, and it was hoped to stop them, or them delay them long enough for civilian evacuations (Kronstadt was primarily German at that time, with also a strong Hungarian minority, see Landau's book Goodbye Transylvania for his account of growing up there). The males in the German population were asked to gather together under the leadership of the officers at the local Waffen-SS recruiting station, to form an infantry battalion. They were to be joined by another battalion formed at Hermannstadt to together make up SS-Regiment Siebenburgen. In either case, most men of prime military age were already in the Waffen-SS or the Romanian Army, so only students of about 15-17 and older men over 45 or so were really available, along with some wounded/disabled soldiers, men on leave, and a few privaleged occupation men. Events overtook Hermannstadt before its men could properly assemble, but the Kronstadt battalion did see action, and was quickly destroyed near Neumarkt, with the survivors being swept westward, where they are believed to have joined up with the 8. SS-Kavallerie Division FG. The battalion had served under SS-Hstuf. Neuweiler, and the "regiment" was officially disbanded on October 18, 1944. Short write-ups on the battalion/regiment are found in Siegrunen #62 and Hans Holzträger's book In a Raging Inferno. (Another thing I forgot to mention, apparently a few ethnic Romanian Iron Guardists from Kronstadt also joined the unit, I don't know if any ethnic Hungarians joined).

The SS-Röntgen Abteilung was, as its name suggests, the X-Ray unit of the Waffen-SS medical services. It trained X-Ray technicians for assignment to various Sänits Abteilungen (Röntgen was the founder of modern X-Ray technology).

Among the named units, we should not forget SS-Panzergrenadier Regiments 1 & 2 LSSAH ("Leibstandarte Schutz Staffel Adolf Hitler" or "Adolf Hitler's SS Body Guard Regiment" was their honor title).

SS-Panzer-Regiment 26 "Reichsmarschall" was just a cover name, an imaginary unit to disguise the disbanding of de surviving elements of SS-Panzer-Brigade Gross at Sennelager. Its sub-units were used as replacements for the 6.Panzer-Armee.

In that case, should we not add all LSSAH sub-units? They all had "LSSAH" added to their name: SS-Panzer-Regiment 1 LSSAH, SS-Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung LSSAH, etc.

Hi Timo,

I am a bit confused. Those units were already under the LSSAH so why is there any need to have a LSSAH unit to have be added the title/name "LSSAH"?

Thanks for any info..

Because the title "Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler" was also added to the official sub-unit designations.

Timo, above my post was a list of named "infantry-type" regiments, in numerical order, and I only meant that SS-PGR 1 & 2 LSSAH belonged on the same list with Germania, Deutschland, Westland, etc.

My understanding is that the plan in the summer of 1944 was to expand SS-Panzergrenadier Brigaden 49 & 51 into, respectively, SS-Panzer Divisions 26 & 27. This had to be cancelled due to the severe mauling of the 17. SS-PGD, which was then refurbished with these two brigades. At the time of the initial proposal for the two new divisions, there had also been talk of adding a third division, the 28. SS-PD, but this never even progressed far enough for a suggestion of where the manpower would originate, and the idea was dropped when the two brigades were instead sent to the 17. SS-PGD. HOWEVER, then, a couple of months later, the 28. SS-PD name was revived as a cover for the arrival of the SS-Panzer Brigade Gross in the 6. Panzerarmee zone, as you report about the 26. SS-PR name (and in fact, there may have been brief consideration of using the Gross Brigade as the cadre to a new Panzer Division).

I don't at all claim that the above is correct when it comes to the 28. SS-PD, I can only report what I read in Munoz Forgotten Legions book, but I have seen corraboration elsewhere on the intended use of SS-PGB 49 & 51. And Landwehr indicates in an article in some old Siegrunen that "Reichsmarschall" as a title was proposed for a division to be formed from excess Luftwaffe personnel, as a sort of "Waffen-SS Luftwaffe Feld Division" (keeping in mind that by 1944, the former LW Feld Divisionen were instead part of the Heer, and were known as Feld Divisionen (L), so this wasn't as strange an idea as it first sounds).
