Just for departure.

Remnants of 559 and 667 with probably a battalion of HG moved via Dordrecht/Moerdijk to Kruisland and stayed the night and moved towards Wouwse Plantage the next day at the end of October 1944.
Near Roosendaal there was a tankbattle with 5 Tigers(according to Brittish reports).
My personal opinion is that they must have been probably 5 panthers of 559,but I haven´t had time yet to investigate this for sure.
What is sure is that HG units were send to Roosendaal.
Later HG also replaced Fallschirmjager Regiment 6 at ´Panzersperre de Zoom ´(Bergen op Zoom)

Hey Everybody,

I have just a few questions about th 559. I've found this particular thread Very valuable !!
I take it that the 559 was in Belgium for the latter part of the war ? Most interested in where they were from Nov. '44 - Jan. '45.

1) Would any one have any pictures of the Jagd-Panthers from the 559 during the time frame of Nov.'44 - Jan. '45 ?

2) What color would the tactical Numbers on the side of the Jagd-Panther have been ?

I have the Panzer Tracts 9-3 on the history of the Jagd-Panther & the Combat history of the 654th, but I'm finding information on the 559th very hard to come by, save this thread, has any one released a book on the Combat history of the 559th ?

Thanx on Advance for any or all information !

Eric,

On the first page of this thread the history is mentioned several times: "Missbraucht und gebeutelt" by F. Kopka; Chronik der s.PzjägerAbt.559.

It is ultra rare, though. It would be nice if it could be republished on a wider scale like Schneider did with Kortenhaus's history of the 21st Panzer Division which was similarly rare and impossible to find.

Hey Sam,

I came in half way through this thread & have since backtracked to find the Placement. But I still have two Burning questions :

1) Would any one have any pictures of the Jagd-Panthers from the 559 during the time frame of Nov.'44 - Jan. '45 ?

2) What color would the tactical Numbers on the side of the Jagd-Panther have been ?

I'm building a Jagd-Panther & the decal sheet has the Call Numbers as Red outlined in White ... I just wanna make sure that's accurate.

Thanx for the head-up on the beginning of the post.
Any help in this is Greatly Appreciated - Thanx in Advance,

ERIK

Whereabouts of s.H.Pz.Jg.Abt. 559 Nov 1944 - Jan 1945:
Nov 12, 1944: Begin of a several day rail transport from Utrecht (Netherlands) to Wissembourg (Alsace). From there road march to Haguenau area.
Nov 24 - 30, 1944: Tactically attached to Pz.Lehr-Div. and operations in Haguenau area.
Until Dec 8, 1944: Continued operations in Haguenau area in LXXXIX. sector.
Dec 8 - 10, 1944: Road and rail Transport to Bullay (Moselle) south of Cochem.
Dec 11, 1944 - Jan 21, 1945: Tactically attached to Pz.Lehr-Div., short refit in Bullay - Cochem area, then transport to Pronsfeld area in preparation for German offensive in the Ardennes.
Late Jan 1945: After BotB attached to 79. VGD in Krautscheid area nw of Bitburg.

Markings used in Netherlands (black? with white outlines) :
Stabskp.: 01, 02, 03
1. - 3. Kp. X01, X02, X11, X12, X13, X14, X21, X22, X23, X24, X31, X32, X33, X34 (replace X with company number)
Jagdpanther were used in Stabskp. and 1. Kp. only.
Style probably kept thereafter, but I'm not 100% sure because photos are rare.

Jagdpanthers of the Panzerjäger-Abteilung 559 in the centre of Tilburg early Sept44.
They where unloaded from a railtransport at Tilburg Station, and moved south, here crossing the Bredaseweg.
This picture was taken by a student who lived on the first floor, and did this with great risk
Interval between the two panzers can be measured by the lady in the left corner.

Pictures were optained from the RCT Tilburg
i used them in a topic some time ago, but i gues they realy should be in here
if you want them in a larger format just drop a pm, and ill send

MARTIN, & GUNSLINGER,

Thank you very much for the Replys ! Martin great info !

Gunslinger .... Would you happen to have any more pix of the 559th's JP's ? I like these but with all of the Foliage it's hard to tell th camo scheme. I'm sure it's on par with th rest.

I would really like to see some pix of the 559th from the Ardennes to see if they applied a White Wash yet & what the camo looked like. I understand these pictures are Rare but .... :milwink:

Thanx in Advance & Thank you very much for sharing the Info !!

Can anyone put me in touch with Franz Kopka, author of "Missbraucht und gebeutelt" or can anyone help me acquire a copy of his manuscript on Abt. 559? I have composed a 22-page English-language manuscript on the history of a member of that unit, Paul Steinbrenner and need a better time-line of 559 in Russia to put Paul's recollections in better time-order. I would also like to send a copy of my manuscript to Mr. Kopka. I can send copies of my manuscript to any surviving member of that unit from the time period May 1942 through November 1944. Thank you. Roland: Please accept my condolences for the death of your grandfather. My father-in-law, who was in your grandfather's unit, died July 1, 2010 at the age of 88 years. Can you send me a copy of your grandfather's manuscript "Missbraucht und gebeutelt"? I can send you a copy of my 22 page compilation of my father-in-law's experiences as a young man and in the second world war. How do we exchange email or hardcopy addresses? Do you speak English? Thank you. Michael Shoen, Arizona USA
