Unit identification (SS & Heer)

Post by Ivan Ž. » 02 Nov 2005 14:07

Does anyone recognize this Heer General,
or this SS-Hauptscharführer?

Photo was posted by K.Kocjancic (source: MNZS).

I believe Heer unit in the background (& man on the right)
is an Gebirgsjäger, or Jäger unit (notice patch between SS & Heer Officer/NCO).

I think SS-Hauptscharführer is also very likely (SS-)Gebirgsjäger.

Thanks in advance,
Ivan

Hi!

The General was identified as Generalleutnant Ferdinand Noeldechen.

Regards,

Thanks!

Photo was (obviously) taken after he was awarded with RK (8.VI 1943).
Perhaps in Austria, while he was commander of Division Nr. 438 (1.XI 1943 - 8.V 1945)?
Maybe summer 1944?

Gen.Lt. Ferdinand Noeldechen was the commander of Division z.b.V. 438, the picture was taken during one of anti-partisan operations in Slovenia in September 1944 see this interesting discussion - http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=25085

I'd say the location is the area W of Maribor, the Heer troops are either divisional Landschützen units or more probably from Geb.Jäg.Rgt. Treeck. The SS-Hscha. and the person on the right are either from one of SS-Polizei units or from Rösener's Bandenbekämpfungsstab.

Marko

Zdravo Ivan,

I finally nailed this one:

from left to right - Noeldechen, SS-Hauptscharführer Klemens Druschke (from SD) and would you belive it - a local SD associate Andrej Noc 8O. The picture was taken in Oberkrain.

That's good info, Marko!

Btw, is this the same man?
Photo is taken from Wochenschau (filmed somewhere in Balkans)
Ears are identical, I think...

Sorry, must have evaded my eyes  . Could you post more stills or perhaps email them (or the clip) to me? Here's another pic of him from Corbatti/Nava: Karstjäger.

Hi faf_476!

Noc and I believe also Druschke settled just over the border in Austria and lived happily ever after :) . Likewise Noeldechen.

Thanks, Ivan.

Have to correct myself, Clemens Druschke was prosecuted by German authorities after the war for his activities in Slovenia but was acquitted.
