Hello !

I'm looking for an information, i found a police report about soome incidents at Villefranche de Rouergue during the training of the 13th Division, i'm looking to find the entire name of the person named "Hans".

All what is wrote in the report is, "Hans from the Schpiss bataillon ?"
What does it mean for you ? I don't find more !

Thx you for your help !

All the best ! :)

Hello Nicolas,
Is the sentence in this text in french language not mispelled?
Maybe the autor would wrote "Hans the Spieß (ß= double lettre s)) of the batallion (Hans le "Spieß" du bataillon) (Feldwebel du bataillon).
Spiess (ß) = Feldwebel and he got the rank of UnterOffizier ( Under officer= sous-officier)
That's just an advice not a certitude!!!!!
Sorry for my poor english knowledge.
Kindly regards from Belgium
Prosper

hello

usually it is just a quick and simple maner to identify the unit by the name of the chief as it could happen sometimes in reports or documents, e.g. Battalion untel or untel instead of 1st 2nd Battalion of X Regiment...
especially concerning a german unit with their obscure organisation or complex denomination like SS-Gebirgs-Pionier-Bataillon 13

I know only the Pioneer Battalion in Villefranche-de-Rouergue when the Division came in the Massif Central,
so the Battalion Schipps...I don't see, would be Battalion Kuntz, if not, could be an other unit...

Regards
Loïc

Hello !

Thx you for your interresting repply !

I think that Prosper Vanderbroucke maybe found the solution, i found some mispelled words in other official documents as well.
As the picture next, (Hans is sitting in the middle, with his crew all around) Hans was "Unterscharführer", and he actually use to ask their papers to the French police officers.

Loïc, I will try to find a person named "Schipps" anyway, it could be too, because in the repport, the writer wrote "du" bataillon schpiss, it can mean "from" bataillon schpiss ;) !

I'm looking to find the entire name of Hans, what i know is he was Bavarian.

All the best ! If you have any suggestion, the door is open :)

Merci Clement pour ta réponse !

Yep i saw that once, as we can see, the Name "Hans" inside the repport became "Hanz" in the article, i think the article is closer to the true name, "Hanz".

Thank you !

All the best,

Nicolas CAM
