I am looking for informations abou man called Branko Gasparevic. He was commander of special commando group trained in Neustrelitz from 15 november to 9.december 1944. Group members were Serbs, former Chetniks and members of Serbian volunteer corps

Allegedly, he was a SS captain(Hauptsturmfuhrer) and foundation of his group is connected with a man called Rupert Mandl.

Anybody has some informations.

Branko Gasparevic Gara. He was educated in Zagreb to be a schoolteacher. In this capacity he worked in Slavonia before the war. In the army he reached the rank of captain. After April 1941 he fled to Belgrade, where he joined SFK. At first active as an interrogator with the XII. Detachment of Volunteers, he went on to be assistant commander of the IV detachment (until April 1942). Kosta Musicki testified that Gasparevic left the SFK in early 1943, apparently because of his attitude towards active officers. Thereafter he worked as a political worker in "Zbor". In September 1944 he was chosen for service with special units (see above). He had been captured as his group tried to cross Drina river (probably in early March 1945), was tried in Belgrade and executed.

Latas and Dželebdžić published more than few misidentifications and misinformation in their propaganda piece "Četnički pokret Draže Mihailovića".

The photo actually shows Boško Bećarević (see "Nemačka obaveštajna služba" IV, UDB, Belgrade, 1959).

Cheers,
Ivan

Hi Ivan,

and thanks for the correction (Bećarević was the chief of the special anti-communist branch ("IV Department") of the Belgrade police during the war).

Cheers,

G.
