Handschar imam ID help
Re: Handschar imam ID help
Hi
Hussein is more often a first name and not a family name. If you're sure he was a imam he could be Husejin ĐOZO (or DZOZO) but I know a ustuf RAKANOVIC Husein (not imam).
Regards
Phil D

Re: Handschar imam ID help
Hello -
The man in fotomaster's first photo is not Husein Dzozo. I have several photos of Dzozo and he is older. Moreover, Dzozo was commissioned as a Hauptsturmfuehrer (captain), not an Untersturmfuehrer (second lieutenant), which is the rank the man in this photo wears. Lastly, imams usually (always?) wore the red-and-white "Waffenfarbe" of a Fachfuehrer, or specialty officer, on their shoulder boards. This man is not wearing it.
When the Handschar Division was established, a first group of imams was trained at Potsdam-Babelsberg in 1943 and commissioned as SS officers. However, a second imam Lehrgang was conducted in Germany and these (mostly younger) men were later sent to the Handschar and Kama Divisions. Perhaps this fellow belongs to this second group.
The men in the second photo are not members of the Handschar Division.
Thanks for posting the photos.
Best regards,
George
