The Indian Legion was one of the most unusual parts created by the Germans during the Second World War. Formed from prisoners of war captured in North Africa, the legion was used mainly for propaganda purposes against the rule of Great Britain in India. The Indian nationalist Chandra Bose had high hopes for this legion, but because of the setbacks in North Africa and southern Russia in 1942-1943, the Germans used it very little. At the end of the war, he became part of the SS Himmler troops.

Bose considered himself the leader of India and willingly accepted the title of "netaji" (respected leader). Between 1933 and 1936, Bos lived in Europe, mainly in Italy and Germany, whom he admired with government systems and whom he wanted to take as a model for the future government of free India. In 1939, Bosch made a short trip to Berlin in search of support in the struggle for the independence of his country, after which he returned to India.
