Re: Some SS "Handschar" photo-infos
Hello, Huska
Recruiting (most likely) for the German Police in Croatia.
Note that there is "Handschar" mentioned in the album description, but that's an error; there are no "Handschar" troops in Westermann's photos. Pictured soon after the recruiting scene are recruits of the German police (see page 2). There is also a police recruitment poster pictured.
Cheers,
Ivan
PS
As we mentioned before (here), the soldier that appears at the end of the Westermann album wearing a "Handschar" collar patch (this one) was a member of the newly-formed "Skanderbeg" Division, who previously served in the Albanian Battalion of the "Handschar" Division.

Hello, Ivan
It's not a Handschar related question but are the recruits of the German Police who are wearing an uniform (page 2, Westermann) Muslims?
Cheers,

Re: Some SS "Handschar" photo-infos
Hello BG44,
That I can't know. As was mentioned earlier, Muslim units (German/Croatian/Partisan), besides the usual headgear (helmets / side caps), wore fezzes. That was basically what distinguished them from other units, in appearance. However, Muslim units in the SS / German Police were supplied with fezzes in late 1943 (at least I know that the "Handschar" was, but I doubt that the police got fezzes before the Waffen-SS), and Westermann photos were taken months earlier. There's nothing I can see in them that could indicate whether the recruits were Muslims/Catholics/etc. They all wear the standard German gear.
Cheers,
Ivan

Re: Some SS "Handschar" photo-infos
Hello everyone!
As many of you know the division operated in the area around and in the Bosnian town Tuzla. I’ve never seen a picture that was taken in Tuzla, at least not a confirmed picture. Does anyone know where to find one?

I don't know about Bundesarchiv (it's not listed at their website), but there's a high quality copy at Süddeutsche Zeitung Photo:

By the way, part of the photo ended up on a cover of Kölnische Illustrierte Zeitung in Dec. 1943:
