Ost-Bataillon 600 - composition
Ost-Bataillon 600 - composition
Would someone have an idea of the generic composition of an Ost-Bataillon? Concretely I am looking for the number of "medics" in such a bataillon. Is this an additional speciality for a soldier or are these fulltime specialists?

What period? Their composition did change a bit over time and when you look at its history Ost-Btl.600 is not entirely standard either.... Although it is always hard to speak of a standard Ost-Btl.
In late 1943 Ost-Btle. were ordered to be organized like this:
- Stab (KStN 111 n)
- 3 x Schützenkp. (KStN 131 n)
- 1 x MG-Kp. (KStN 151 n)
These KStNs are the same as were used by German units, but they were somewhat modified for the Ost-Btle. I don't think that did affect the number of medics though.
There was also talk of changing battalions to (mostly) match the KStNs of static German battalions, but I found it difficult to establish if this was really carried out and if it would also have applied to Ost-Btl.600 is another matter.

Re: Ost-Bataillon 600 - composition
Normally tables of organization included authorized medics (one per combat platoon in late 1943) as well as other men of other specialties which seconded as assistant medics:
