I would like information about this so called Tatar Legion.I heard about Wolga-Tatarische and Krim-Tatarische Legions.Did they belong to the same unit ? When were this Tatar Legion formed and how many volunteers did it gather ? Any possible pictures ? Was it part of the Wehrmacht or the SS ?

As far as I know the biggest unit of Tatars created by Germans was the Waffen Gebirgs Brigade der SS (tatarische Nr1). This brigade was created in June/July 44 and was disbanded at the end of January 45. Commander: SS-Standartenfuhrer Wilhelm Fortenbacher. Created from Tatar schuma battalions.
