I was wondering if someone here could help me in the right direction?
I am researching my grandfather's time in Schutzmannschaft battalion

Eduards Voldemars Bērziņs joined the Schutzmannschaft battalion (Unsure which one) on 5 August 1941 and was enlisted in the Legion on 26 October 1944 also indicates the field post No - Fp. 37663-I, which belonging to the Latvian Police regiment "Riga"
I had also found a salary calculation card of legionnaire Eduards Bērziņš of 28 February 1945 (prepared in Prague) was also found. on 28 February 1945 last news received from him was in January 1945 as a lieutenant with the German Armed Forces in Stettin.

Any help would be appreciated
regards
Aaron

A post dealing with the Holocaust in Latvia was split off into new thread at http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=211652, all discussions on the war crimes aspect belong in that section, not this one.

Hi!

Your grandfather most probably served in the 19. Division in the "Kurzemes cietoksnis" and took part in the heavy christmas battles. (23-31/12 1944).

Best regards

Hello,
I am new to this forum, and would like to ask a question about a specific person who served in the Latvian legion. I own a pistol that belonged to a "Lt. Konstantins Mucenieks, who at the time of this pistol being presented to him, 12/16/1939, was serving in the Latvian Army. From what I have learned doing Google searches, he later served in the Latvian Legion.

Does anybody have any additional information on him, where he served, family, etc.?

I am including a picture of the inscription on this mint 1934 Mauser.

Thank you in advance for any information.

Hi, :welcome:

What evidence do you have that that the pistol belongs to Konstantins Mucenieks? The inscription just reads that it was presented to 1st Lieutenant (vltn. = virsleitnants) Mucenieks by the officers of the 5th Cesis Infantry Regiment. Unfortunately I have been unable to find any officer named Mucenieks serving in that Regiment, but the only Konstantins Mucenieks I have been able to find, who later served in the Latvian Legion, never served in the 5th IR, at the time of the presentation shown on the pistol he was serving as the Deputy Chief of the III Division of the Training Department of the Army General Staff, having previously served in the 6th Riga Infantry Regiment.
Sorry that I don't have more positive information.

Best regards,

VJK

Hi VJK,
Thank you for your response. Last year, I sent this picture to the Latvian museum, and received a reply from one of the researchers that this pistol belonged to Konstantins Mucenieks. He may have been mistaken, but I am still on a quest to find information on the owner of this pistol. More to satisfy my curiosity and of course my love of history. Again, I appreciate your help. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you

Hi,

Regarding the document posted referring to SSO Oetting, I find it very odd that the document cites the 15. Waffen-SS Pz. Gren. Division. Unless I've let something slip seriously by all these years, then the 15. Div. was a Grenadier Division not a Panzer Grenadier Division. Your thoughts please Forum members.
